EPA Releases New Climate Adaptation Plan to Build a More Resilient Nation

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has unveiled its 2024-2027 Climate Adaptation Plan. This plan outlines the agency's strategy for addressing climate change impacts and building a more resilient nation.

Below are some of the key components of this plan.

Climate-Ready Workforce: EPA is investing in employee education and training to ensure staff understand climate risks, their impact on programs, and potential adaptation solutions.

Building Resilient Facilities: The agency is conducting assessments to identify vulnerabilities in its facilities and make necessary improvements for better climate resilience.

Climate-Proofing Supply Chains: EPA is factoring climate hazards into its supply chain management plan to mitigate potential disruptions.

Funding Climate-Smart Solutions: Grant programs are being modernized to encourage investments in community resilience projects.

Data-Driven Decision Making: EPA is providing communities and funding recipients with the tools and data needed to assess climate risks and develop effective adaptation strategies.

Integrating Climate Resilience into Regulations: The rulemaking process will consider future climate scenarios to ensure regulations remain effective.

Focus on Environmental Justice: Climate adaptation efforts will prioritize protecting disadvantaged communities disproportionately impacted by climate change.

This plan builds on previous EPA efforts and aligns with the Biden-Harris Administration's commitment to tackling the climate crisis.  It's part of a larger initiative where over 20 federal agencies are releasing their own climate adaptation plans.

The newly established Office of Climate Adaptation and Sustainability will spearhead these efforts and support partnerships focused on building resilience and promoting sustainability.
