Small Water Storage Program Grant

The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has launched the Small Storage Program grant, promoting federal assistance to enhance water storage opportunities across the Western United States and its territories. Authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), this initiative aims to secure water resources for future generations. This program represents a critical tool for developing future water storage capacity.

This program offers financial assistance for projects designed to increase water supply reliability, improve operational flexibility, and enhance the resiliency of water infrastructure. In accordance with the IIJA, projects must possess a water storage capacity between 200 and 30,000 acre-feet.

To become eligible for funding, project proponents must first submit a feasibility study. The agency must approve the study before the proponent can apply for financial assistance.

The deadline to submit small storage feasibility studies for Reclamation's review is February 13, 2026. Early submissions are highly encouraged. Studies may be submitted to bor-sha-smallstorage@usbr.gov.
