Boost for Nature-Based Solutions: $95 Million Available for Water Resilience Projects

Great news for those working on climate resilience and ecosystem restoration in drought-stricken communities.  The Department of the Interior has announced a significant funding opportunity through President Biden's Investing in America agenda.

Up to $95 million is available for projects that bolster water resources, advance ecosystem health, and support community resilience against drought and other climate change impacts.  This builds on last year's successful program, which saw $51 million awarded for 30 projects across 11 states.

What types of projects are eligible?

  • Water conservation and efficiency initiatives
  • Water management and infrastructure improvements
  • River and watershed restoration
  • Nature-based solutions that offer ecological benefits and adaptation support to communities facing climate threats

The Interior Department emphasizes collaboration between stakeholders and prioritizes projects that deliver benefits across various water-use sectors.  Additionally, the Justice40 Initiative ensures that 40% of the project benefits reach underserved communities disproportionately impacted by climate change and environmental issues.
